What causes wheelchair bound people to experience deterioration in their hands?

I have noticed that some people who are in a wheelchair have deterioration in their hands as well as their legs. I understand that the deteriation in the legs is caused by a lack of muscle use but I don't get why their hands are different if they use them just as much as everyone else does
